The Veluwe is a part of the Netherlands where you’ll find the best pieces of Dutch Nature. It’s the perfect area to wind down, and so we did! We were invited to the brand new wellness lodge of recreational estate de IJsvogel. They finished the wellness lodge just before we arrived and you could smell the novelty. The place really looked amazing and we were very happy to be relaxing at the Veluwe. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great when we visited, but that didn’t bother us with such a relaxing lodge like this! In this blog, we’ll tell you all about our stay.

Recreational Estate De IJsvogel

Recreational Estate De IJsvogel is a big estate in the Veluwe with many holiday homes, chalets, and group accommodations in all kinds of sizes and styles. And they are still expanding with a whole new area with multiple wellness lodges like the one we stayed in.

Check-in

The reception is located in the middle of the park. We arrived late but we could pick up the information and the keys in the restaurant beside the reception. It was all pretty straight forward, we had to drive around the park to the new area where we immediately had the time to relax in the wellness lodge in the heart of the Veluwe.

The Wellness Lodge

As told above, the wellness lodge is brand new and built in a beautiful style. There is a big living room with a kitchen with a dishwasher, a dining table and a lounge with TV and fireplace. Weather can be either good or bad in the Netherlands, you never know, so it’s nice to have a place to cozy up on the colder days. Then there is a big bedroom with a large bathtub to relax in. The place also comes with a sauna and a ‘sun shower’. The latter is a combined shower and a tanning light, a great combination for a warm shower! So yes, this lodge is definitely perfect for relaxing!

Facilities

Besides the wellness options in the lodge, it also offers free Wifi and there are several facilities within the estate to relax as well. There is an indoor and outdoor pool. During these times of corona, you’ll have to reserve the pools for a certain time frame to keep it all safe though. There is also a sauna within the complex. For the kids, there is a big playground with a soccer field and an animation team. You can also rent bikes, there is a bowling alley (although it was closed at the time when we were there because of Covid-19 restrictions) and a tennis court. Furthermore, there is a restaurant and a snack bar to take care of your inner selves

The Location: The Veluwe, a Natural Area

De IJsvogel is located just outside the town Voorthuizen in the Veluwe which is a huge natural area in the Province of Gelderland in the Netherlands. You can find heaps of forests and vast moors in this beautiful area. Besides relaxing in nature there are also several towns and villages with plenty of activities to do. Close by you can find the National Park ‘de Hoge Veluwe’, which is perfect for hiking, a big zoo, a monkey zoo, and an amusement park. So if you are done relaxing you don’t have to get bored at all.
