Relax in the Vendée, France – Oasis Les Jardins

The French west coast stretches over 1600km. With such a long coast, there’s plenty of beautiful places to choose from. The southern half of this coast is located along the Bay of Biscay and it’s the perfect area for a relaxing holiday. Summers in this part of France last a little longer than summers in the northern countries in Europe and that’s exactly why we went to relax in the Vendée, one of many French departments and had a lovely beach time at the end of summer in the gorgeous town Les Sables d’Olonne. There we stayed at Oasis Les Jardins des Sables d’Olonne where we enjoyed a huge villa with a private pool. In this blog, we tell you all about our stay in this beautiful area.

Oasis Les Jardins des Sables d’Olonne

Oasis Les Jardins is a villa park with many beautiful villas to have a lovely holiday, and most of them have a private pool to relax in! The park is like a little suburb with one road going all around between the many villas. Besides the private pools, there is also a public pool, a tennis court, basketball court, playground, and more. Unfortunately, this was closed at the time because of a well-known pandemic.

Check-in

We came all the way from the French Alps and had a long drive to get to the Vendée and Bay of Biscay before we could finally start relaxing on the French west coast, so we arrived in the evening. The reception was closed, but they had left the keys and information in a small locker for us. We followed the map to find our villa where we could park directly in front of the house and could start enjoying our holiday!

The Villa

As we said above, most of the villas do have their own private pool to make sure you can totally relax in the Vendée. And if you are traveling with kids you don’t have to worry because all the pools have a pool-alarm which detects if anything from over 5 kilos falls into the water. The garden is gorgeous with lots of sunbeds and lush plants, and they also have a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and there is a washing machine as well. The villa we stayed in had 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a big lounge in the living room.

Facilities

In the park are many sports facilities: mini-golf, a tennis court, children’s playground, petanque courts, table tennis, and a basketball/football court. You can also rent bicycles to get around or buy tickets for nearby activities. There is also a restaurant called La Ferme de Villeneuve and a bar where you can enjoy a drink and some snacks that is called Le P’tit Rotterdam.

The Location: Les Sables d’Olonne

Oasis Les Jardins is located a little bit south of the place Les Sables d’Ollone. The town itself is located in Vendée, a department in the northern part of the Bay of Biscay, right on the French west coast. The nearest beach, Plage de Tanchet, is a 10-minute bike ride away. When the waves are good it’s great for surfing, or you can just relax on the beach. There is also a big beach in the city center which is called the same as the town: Les Sables d’Olonne beach. This part of France is best for sunsets, they are stunning over here, so you should at least watch one during your holiday here!

Activities

In the area is plenty to do, even if you are just having a relaxing holiday:

  • Go surfing at one of the beaches.
  • Stroll over the promenade of the town.
  • Have a walk around town and visit the impressive L’île Penotte where the walls are decorated with mosaic art. Or walk through the smallest street of France, the Rue de L’enfer.
  • Watch the sunset on the beach. We loved Plage de la Paracou for this!
  • Visit the zoo des Sables d’Olonne.
  • Visit the lighthouses Petite Jetée.
  • If you have more time you can also drive a bit further away to La Rochelle and Ile de Ré.
