The Dutch coastline is about 450km long, and even though that’s pretty long, sometimes it can still be hard to find a place for some peaceful beach time at the Dutch coast because when the weather is good in the Netherlands everyone flocks to these beautiful beaches. And although the Netherlands is relatively small, the warmest weather is usually in the southern part. That’s where we also went for some quality relaxing time and where we even found one of those peaceful places! We went to Oasis Punt West, a beach resort at the Grevelingenmeer (a huge bay/lake between the southern islands of the Netherlands), and in this blog, we will tell you about our stay at the resort and the surroundings on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee.
Oasis Punt West is a hotel and beach resort that is part of Oasis Parcs which has premium resorts in amazing locations. It’s located in a nature reserve ‘De Punt’ near Ouddorp directly at the Grevelingenmeer. The calm water surrounding the resort is great for kayaking or supping or just chilling at the beach. The studios and apartments enjoy a beautiful view of this peaceful part of the Dutch coast.
The reception is located in the middle, on a small island within the resort. When we arrived, it was the second day that they opened up again after being closed for the covid-19 pandemic. With the necessary adjustments, they welcomed us in a safe and friendly way. We received the keys and information about the area and we could go straight to our studio.
The studio we stayed in was located on that same island as the reception, right at the lake. It was a two-floor apartment, with on the ground floor a living room and kitchenette. On the first floor, you can find the bedroom and bathroom. It’s pretty spacious for two people, and probably the best part was the terrace overlooking the lake. It’s a hotel studio, so you can enjoy the peacefulness of your own place and still have the service of a hotel like daily cleaning and breakfast.
The studio offers free wifi and all you need for a relaxing stay, but there are more facilities on the beach resort. There is a beach all around the resort where you can enjoy some peaceful beach time. At this beach you can also find Brasserie Seven, a restaurant where you can enjoy your breakfast, drinks, and dinner. They also offer bicycle rental to enjoy the great surroundings, or you can rent a SUP (stand up paddleboard) to float over the lake.
The Location: a Peaceful Beach on the Dutch Coast
Oasis Punt West is located in ‘The Punt’ on the island Goeree-Overflakkee in the south of the province South-Holland. As told above it’s right at the Grevelingenmeer, a huge bay. It’s also very close to Banjaard strand, a nice beach at the North Sea, great to have some peaceful beach time! The beach is surrounded by sand dunes which offer a great view. Banjaard Beach offers many beach- and water sports, like kitesurfing, windsurfing, and blo-karting. Besides quality beach time you can also enjoy the cozy small towns you can find close to the resort, like Ouddorp and the picturesque Goedereede.
An Overview of the Must-sees on Goeree-Overflakkee:
- Ouddorp beach (with Westhoofd lighthouse)
- Banjaard beach
- Brouwersdam beach
- Museum R.T.M. in Ouddorp (with a cute little train that drives through the area)
- Slikken van Flakkee
- A Seal in Stellendam
- The windmills that are scattered all around the island
- In spring: tulips!
