Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, our home country. A vibrant city and very popular for tourists from all over the world. A city where even we as Dutchies feel like tourists. The many canals and the old iconic houses along these canals create amazing views and beautiful photo opportunities. We’ve visited the city multiple times and during the last time, we stayed in a special room of the Kimpton de Witt hotel, right in the center of Amsterdam. In this blog we tell you all about this special room and our great stay.

Kimpton de Witt

Kimpton de Witt is part of Kimpton Hotels, a hotel group with 69 hotels all over the world of which many are located in the US. The Kimpton de Witt hotel is a stylish hotel right in the center of Amsterdam. It’s a very well organised hotel, they thought of everything and you’ll notice it by all the little details. For example the ‘forget it, we’ve got it’ amenities. Did you forget your charger? Or didn’t think of an international plug adapter? A simple call to the main desk and you got it.

Check-in

The friendly staff welcomed us as soon as we walked in. We came by car, knowing that Kimpton de Witt offers Valet Parking. We left the keys with the staff and they made sure the car was parked safely. A side note though, parking in Amsterdam is never cheap, so if you want to save on parking you better park outside the city and go by public transport, or don’t even bring your car at all. The friendly lady from the reception guided us to our room and told us about all the facilities in the hotel and made sure everything was well.

The Room

The hotel offers many various rooms. From a standard king or double room to the penthouse suite. The room we stayed in was large with a big comfy king bed and a spacious bathroom with a rain shower. The room had everything we needed, but there was more. This room was part of a special project: The Stay Human project, and therefore had some special features.

Stay Human Project

For the Stay Human project, the Kimpton de Witt hotel specially decorated a room. For this project, guests are invited to make a genuine connection with those who stayed here before, those who will follow, and to yourself. To achieve this there were several extras in the room, like a lot of plants on the wall. It is the guest’s task to water them together over time. There was also a board with notes for the best spots of Amsterdam according to the previous guests, together with polaroid photos. To make these photos there is a polaroid camera in the room which you can take with you into the city. We loved this whole concept!

Facilities

Part of the Kimpton de Witt hotel is the Wyers restaurant where also the breakfast will be served. Besides the restaurant you can find a cozy bar where you can sip on a cocktail, a beer, or just a coffee. During the day there is also a coffee lounge to have a snack or a drink. Furthermore there is a 24-hour fitness center, free wifi, and much more.

The Location: Amsterdam’s City Center

The Kimpton de Witt hotel is located right in the heart of Amsterdam! Hotspots like the canals, the Damrak, the Old Church, and the red light district are all in walking distance and the train station Amsterdam Central is less than 500 meters away. There is also a metro station very close to the hotel entrance. It’s a great base to explore the city from.
