Queenstown is one of the most popular towns of New Zealand which you definitely need to visit when you go to New Zealand. There are numerous outdoor, adventure and adrenaline activities to experience, but if you look further than that you’ll notice that the surroundings here are just breathtaking. It’s unbelievable!

We had the pleasure of visiting this area at the beginning of spring when the mountains are still covered in snow, and the ski areas were still open. It’s a relatively small town, but tourism is booming! There are plenty of accommodation options, but we were very lucky to be staying at Jucy Snooze in the center of Queenstown. In this blog, we will share our experience!

Jucy Snooze

Jucy is especially known for its big fleet of campervan and car hire, but they also have a few hostels, and one of them is the brand new Jucy Snooze in Queenstown. Just opened in April 2018, it’s in a perfect location, right in the heart of Queenstown. They offer futuristic pods in a shared room, with lots of privacy but also ensuite double rooms, where we had the pleasure of staying in, and quad rooms.

Check-in

The check-in already shows how modern this place is: you can check in yourself with the self check-in kiosks which goes really smoothly. We scanned our passport, put in our reservation number and our access key came out straight away! Wow, more hotels need to use a system like this! Besides that, there was a really friendly guy that explained us all about the facilities and how to get to our room. We arrived early in the afternoon, but even if you arrive in the middle of the night that’s no problem here, as there is always someone friendly at the reception 24 hours a day.

The room

Jucy Snooze is hostel style accommodation, but it has some private rooms too for couples like us. It’s definitely not like a ‘normal’ (read: messy and stinky) hostel, which is a huge plus! We stayed in a Queen room that has an ensuite bathroom. It’s a compact room, but it had everything we needed. The bed was really comfy, there is a tv, enough space to put your luggage away and a nice bathroom. From the small window, we looked out over town. Also in the room, you’ll notice that this hostel is brand new, as they even have USB chargers in the wall!

Facilities

The hostel offers many great facilities, like free fast, unlimited wifi (something we rarely see in New Zealand!) and besides the 24 hours reception it also has a travel desk to help you with your activities. There are laundry facilities and a neat communal kitchen with all the equipment you need to prepare a good meal. On the top floor is a lounge within the rooftop bar.

Miss Lucy’s Rooftop Pizzeria & Bar

On the top floor, you can find Miss Lucy’s, a pizzeria and bar. We had the best wood-fired pizzas here in a long time! They choose unique combinations for toppings on your pizza which make it incredibly tasty pizzas you won’t get anywhere else!

Miss Lucy’s has a great setup with a big balcony with fireplace overlooking the town and views on the mountains and Skyline Gondolas. You can also find a nice lounge here with power points and some board games to keep you occupied during the rainy days. There is always something going on in the bar, like live bands and a 90’s night, and even though we stayed on the same floor, we never heard any noise. The bar is open for public so even if you’re not staying at Jucy Snooze you can visit it.

Location

As told, Jucy Snooze is in the center of Queenstown. You’re only a short walk away from the popular Skyline Gondolas where you can enjoy scenic views over the surroundings. Fergburger is also close, which is the most famous burger place of New Zealand, and after a short stroll through town, you’ll get to the lakeside. Within a short distance, you’ll also find the Queenstown Gardens. Here you can find the best views along the lake, or play disc golf, which a combination of golf and frisbee.

We loved to stay at Jucy Snooze Queenstown, since it was the most luxurious hostel we have ever seen and for a very affordable price. Seriously, every hostel should be like this! Add to that the best location in town, and you’ve found yourself a perfect hostel in Queenstown!
