Amsterdam, the Dutch Capital, is always a pleasure to visit. After we had a little staycation in Amsterdam last winter we went for another weekend trip this summer. The canal views had turned green, flowers were blooming and the sunshine made everything so pretty. This time we stayed at Pillows Boutique Hotel Anna van den Vondel. From the moment we enter the hotel we immediately feel at home in Amsterdam. Want to know why? Read on for the complete experience!

Pillows Boutique Hotel Anna van den Vondel

Pillows Boutique hotel is part of the Pillows Hotel group which has hotels in the Netherlands and Belgium. It’s a lovely small hotel, with only 30 rooms. The cozy environment and a homelike atmosphere with a luxury touch are what made staying here so good and what really makes you feel at home in Amsterdam. The location is perfect, within walking distance from the city center but in a quiet street in one of the best areas to stay.

Check-in

The entrance of the hotel is just like every other entrance at a canal house in Amsterdam. It’s the same kind of entrance many locals have at their house and this way you can experience the feeling of coming home in Amsterdam. There is no reception, we were welcomed with a drink and sat down in the cozy living where the kind staff gave us all the information we needed. Sitting in front of the huge windows overlooking the quiet street we felt immediately relaxed and looked forward to our stay here.

The Room

The room we stayed at had a big door with a Juliet balcony overlooking the garden. The bed was big and very comfy. All the rooms have a tablet where you can find all the information, but you can also order room service with it. Although it’s a typical older building in Amsterdam, in the room you won’t notice it at all. There are some modern touches, but all in a cozy style.

Facilities

There is no hotel lobby but instead there is a living, which is the heart of the hotel. You can sit in this homelike area and enjoy a drink from the bar, or have something to eat from the All Day Dining Menu which consists of small dishes or plates to share. With some comfy seating areas you can chill out with a nice bite. Besides the living you can also rent some bikes which is the best way to explore the city. We did this as well and had so much fun!

The Location: Vondelpark Area

Pillows Boutique Hotel is located right next to the Vondelpark, the biggest park in the city. It’s like the Central Park of Amsterdam. The area is less crowded than the city center but still pretty close to it. You can walk to the center or take a tram which stops close to the hotel, or as the locals: by bicycle. A little bit of biking experience might be handy though, the bicycle lanes are packed and many people are always in a rush.

Some other spots we recommend to visit in this area of Amsterdam are:

  • Museumplein: a gorgeous huge square with all the big museums around it.
  • Rijksmuseum: the most famous museum of the Netherlands.
  • The typically Dutch Lomanstraat: especially recommended in autumn.
  • Zevenlanden huizen: gorgeous houses inspired by seven different countries.
  • Area De Pijp with the delicious milkshakes of Corner Bakery, the “Wake me up when I’m famous wall” and the Albert Cuypmarkt.
  • Leidseplein: the famous entertainment area of Amsterdam.
