A Complete Curacao Experience at Oasis Coral Estate

Curacao was our first big trip in 2011 and since then we compared every tropical destination with the beautiful beaches and waters of Curacao, and only a few could equal it. That’s one of the reasons why now, in 2020, we decided to settle here on the island. But before we did that we first wanted to get a complete Curacao experience. What better place to get that than at Oasis Coral Estate?! When we arrived on the island we first stayed here, and with them we did get that real Curacao experience we were looking for and which we want to show to you in this blog.

Oasis Coral Estate Beach, Dive & Wellness Resort

Over time we have been staying at many of the Oasis Premium resorts in France & the Netherlands and it has always been a great experience. Oasis Coral Estate – Beach, Dive & Wellness resort was no different! The resort is located at Karakter Beach, a bit out of the main city Willemstad, but you can find everything you need at the resort. We highlighted some of the best facilities down below. One thing we really loved is the big infinity pool. The setting is so beautiful with a view right over the ocean!

The Room

The room we stayed in was a Superior Room Ocean Front, with (you might have guessed it already) a balcony with an ocean view! It was a big room with a kitchenette including everything you’ll need. The luxurious bathroom had a rain shower and the bedroom a smart tv with Netflix access. The superior room gives you also access to the VIP pool and sundeck. This area is adults only and a bit quieter than the main pool.

Karakter Beach

As said above, the resort is located at Karakter beach. And beaches are a major part of a complete Curacao experience, it’s a Caribbean island after all. Most of the best beaches in Curacao are rather small and often located in a bay. Karakter beach is also a beautiful small stretch of beach with sunbeds and palm trees. The water is clear blue and there is also good snorkeling. Restaurant Karakter services the beach so you can simply enjoy a cocktail or some other drinks and food from the sunbeds.

Diving or Snorkeling with Coral Divers

At Oasis Coral Estate resort is also a dive center located. Coral Divers can take you on a diving or snorkeling trip by boat to see the best spots oN the island. Or you can simply rent snorkeling or diving gear to dive in the reef in front of the resort. They also do PADI courses, so if you ever want to learn diving, you can do that right at the resort. We went for a cool snorkeling trip where we visited the blue room as a highlight. The underwater world is definitely part of the real Curacao experience.

Wellness Experience at 8 Curacao

If you want to get totally relaxed, a visit to wellness center 8 Curacao is a great place where you can do this with the most amazing view! Located on the resort they have their own pool plus two hot pools with the best tropical view over the ocean. There is a sauna, a steam room, and a cold room. Furthermore, they have a hair salon, make-up studio, and they offer massages with an ocean view.

Restaurants

At the resort are 4 restaurants to enjoy some delicious food:

Karakter

Restaurant Karakter is the beachside restaurant that offers breakfast, lunch, & dinner right at the beach. It’s also a beach club, so even if you don’t stay at the resort, you can chill out here on the beach enjoying some drinks and snacks, and have a lovely dinner afterward.

Koraal Rooftop

Above Karakter you can find Koraal Rooftop. The bar with infinity pool offers yummy cocktails and drinks and a lunch menu. If you want to enjoy the beautiful pool if you don’t stay at the resort you’ll have to pay 20 NAF ($12 USD) entrance fee. But if you have drinks/lunch for 50 NAF it’s free. We can definitely recommend the bubbles and bites.

Bread & More

The name says it all, they have bread and more. Over here you can get some freshly baked bread and breakfast, but also juices and more. You can eat in or take it with you to your room.

Pizza & More

In the evening Bread & More changes into Pizza & More. You can eat delicious pizza, or take them with you for some Netflix, chill, & pizza time. They have more than pizza though, and we can recommend you to check them out!

The Location: The Best Beaches Around the Corner

Oasis coral estate is located in the western part of Curacao. It’s out of the city where it is more peaceful and where you can find the best beaches. We actually love this location! Besides the beach at the resort, there are a few beautiful beaches close by like Playa Porto Marie, Playa Daaibooi, and Playa Cas Abou. It’s close to the town Sint Willibrordus, also called Williwood (they actually have ‘Williwood’ letters at a small hill). Willemstad itself is about a 30-minute drive away.

Playa Lagun is one of our favourite beaches nearby

Activities For a Complete Curacao Experience

Go hiking with a local guide from Xventure Curacao

We have spent quite some time on the island before we came back, but Xventure Curacao showed us parts we had never been before. A local guide (who set out trails through the nature parks as a volunteer when he was a kid) showed us the beauty of the nature around Jan Kok bay. He knew so much about the nature over here. Besides hikes, they also offer many other outdoor adventures like rock climbing and camping trips. So for those who think that you can only relax on the beach at Curacao, think again. There is way more to see! The Curacao experience is only completely with at least one active activity!

Seafront yoga

To start the day well, you can take a yoga class at a platform that overlooks the beach. Definitely not a bad way to start the day!

Visit the Nena Sanchez Gallery & Landhuis Jan Kok

In Sint Willibrordus, the town close to Coral Estate you can find the most colorful and happy gallery on the island from local artist Nena Sanchez. The gallery is located in the beautiful plantation home Landhuis Jan Kok. It’s worth checking out and it’s free to visit. Nena Sanchez definitely knew how to get the Curacao feeling on canvas. You also have a spectacular view from the gallery.

Go Flamingo Spotting

Very close to Landhuis Jan Kok there is an area where flamingoes live. There is a watchtower over the lake, and sometimes the flamingos come pretty close, other times you’ll need a zoom lens to catch them on your camera. The place is free to visit.

Have a Local Lunch/Dinner at Toko Williwood

In Sint Willibrordus aka Williwood, right opposite the big Williwood sign, you can find Toko Williwood, a real Curacao style toko. Everywhere around the island, you can find local sneks/toko’s where often locals hang out for a beer. Toko Williwood is in the same style and they are the home of the Williwood burger, a local burger made in Curacao from goat meat. You have to try it for the Curacao experience 😉

Rent a Car & Visit the Best Spots in the Area!

Curacao is the biggest island of the ABC islands, with a length of about 60km. The best way to get around on the island is by car because public transport isn’t the best we’ve seen. The good news is that most bookings at Oasis Coral Estate come with a free rental car which will give you all the freedom you’ll need.
